After a successful 13 year stint as owners and managers of an Italian restaurant, The Ingrao family felt it was time for a change.
“We were looking into remodeling our Italian concept in Raritan and discovered that it needed a more modern change,” said Giuseppe Ingrao. And that’s when Char Red Bank was born.
“During our success at Char in Raritan, a great space became available in Red Bank and the town did not have a New York style steakhouse.”
This is when Char’s concept expanded bringing the need for a New York style steakhouse in the affluent town of Red Bank. Following Hurricane Sandy, Char Red Bank opened its doors.
Chef Phil Deffina describes the atmosphere as sexy, sheik, and modern. Despite Char being a steakhouse, steak is only a piece of the menu that gets changed up every quarter.
The most popular items? “Definitely the steaks, especially the 8 oz. filet and 20 oz. cowboy ribeye,” said Chef Phil who describes the 8 oz. as the lady’s steak. “It’s very popular, lean, and super tender.” Chef Phil also noted that Char’s “Steak for Two” Program is something customers ask for. “It features a 40 oz. 35 day dry-aged Tomahawk and a 46 oz. prime dry-aged Porterhouse.”
Chef Phil invited us to Char to join the team for dinner prep. During this time, staff is briefed on the menu and taste test new items. Char staff are trained to be highly knowledgeable on the complete menu from food to drinks.
If you think the food above looks good, you could imagine how amazing it tastes! Char opens at 4pm everyday and is located on the corner of Broad and Mechanic Streets. Reservations are recommended on Friday and Saturday nights.
